Frequently Asked Questions

What is Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI)?

FDA defines a PCQI as a qualified individual who has successfully completed specific training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls (equivalent to a standardized curriculum recognized by the FDA), or otherwise qualified through job experience to develop and apply a food safety system. According to section 117.180 of the rule, the PCQI is responsible to a) develop or oversee preparation of the food safety plan, b) validate the preventive controls, c) review records, and d) reanalysis of the food safety plan.
